This barrel fitting fixture is a dedicated armorer’s jig for manually fitting drop-in barrels into Smith & Wesson M&P and M&P M2.0 pistols using a hand file. It solves the problem of inconsistent barrel lockup by holding the barrel in two precise orientations, allowing you to trim the hood length and the bottom locking surface with repeatable accuracy. Designed for use by gunsmiths and armorers who prefer hand filing over machining, this tool ensures you remove material only where needed, preventing over-insertion or headspace issues.
Compatibility
- Smith & Wesson M&P (full-size, compact, Shield models — barrel fitting only)
- Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 (all barrel configurations)
- Not compatible with M&P Shield Plus or Performance Center ported barrels without verification
Key Features
- Two fixed orientations: top-down for hood length trimming, and hood-against-base for lower lockup surface fitting
- Constructed from 3D-printed polymer — lighter than aluminum versions, with better grip on barrel surfaces during filing
- Accepts standard hand files (6” barrel file recommended)
- No clamping or vise required for basic fitting; fixture stays stable on benchtop
- Repeatable indexing for multiple barrels on the same frame
Install Difficulty: 4/5
Requires a hand file (6” recommended), fine-tooth flat file, and calipers or headspace gauge. Not a drop-in process — you must remove material incrementally and test fit repeatedly. Intended for experienced armorers familiar with barrel lockup geometry.
FAQ
Can I use this with a Dremel or power tool?
No. This fixture is designed exclusively for hand filing. Power tools will remove material too quickly and may damage the barrel or the fixture. Use only a hand file with moderate pressure.
Will this work with aftermarket barrels from other manufacturers?
It fits standard M&P and M&P M2.0 barrel profiles. Some aftermarket barrels with oversized hoods or non-standard locking lugs may require additional clearance. Test fit the barrel in the fixture before filing.
Is the polymer fixture less durable than aluminum?
No. The 3D-printed polymer version is actually better than our aluminum tools — it grips the barrel without marring, resists deformation under filing pressure, and won’t gall or scratch the locking surfaces. It’s lighter and easier to handle for repeated use.
Shipping & Warranty
Orders ship within 1–2 business days via USPS Priority. This fixture carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects. If it cracks or deforms under normal hand-filing use, we’ll replace it free of charge.
