This extended magazine release is a direct-drop-in replacement for the factory magazine catch on large-frame FN pistols. It solves the common issue of insufficient button protrusion under gloved use or high-grip shooting stances, where standard releases can be difficult to reach or depress fully without shifting your grip. Machined from bar stock steel, heat-treated, and finished in black oxide, this component provides a positive, repeatable release action with no modification to the frame or fire control group.

Tools needed: 1/16″ punch or small flathead screwdriver (to depress detent), non-marring mallet (optional).

Estimated time: 5–10 minutes. Same procedure as FN 509 magazine release replacement. Remove slide, depress detent pin from opposite side, drift out factory release, insert new release from the correct side, and reinstall detent. No trigger group disassembly required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this work in a standard FN FNS or FNX-9 compact?

Only if the frame is the large-frame variant. The FNX-45 and FNX-40 use the large frame; most FNX-9 models use a medium frame. Measure your current release button protrusion. If the factory button is flush or recessed, this may not fit. Contact us with your serial number prefix if unsure.

Does this require any permanent modification to the frame?

No. This is a direct replacement using the factory detent and spring. No drilling, filing, or stippling required. Reversible to factory configuration.

Is this compatible with aftermarket trigger shoes or trigger kits?

Yes. This release interfaces only with the magazine catch and the frame, not the trigger mechanism or sear. It will function with any trigger kit, including our own Performance Trigger Kits for the FNX platform.
